Age-related macular degeneration affects the macula, the central portion of the retina responsible for the detailed vision you use to read, drive, recognize faces, and perform everyday activities.
Dry AMD can cause gradual deterioration of retinal cells and may lead to:

Because AMD can progress over time, regular retinal examinations and monitoring are extremely important.
Valeda uses an innovative technology called photobiomodulation (PBM), which delivers carefully controlled amber, red, and near-infrared light to the eye. These light wavelengths are designed to influence cellular activity in the retina. Valeda is FDA-authorized for improving visual acuity in a defined group of patients with dry AMD. Treatment is non-invasive and does not involve injections or surgery. Although Valeda is not a cure for macular degeneration and improvement is not guaranteed, clinical studies have demonstrated visual acuity benefits for some eligible patients.

Valeda is intended for a specific group of individuals diagnosed with dry age-related macular degeneration. FDA-authorized use includes patients with qualifying drusen or non-central geographic atrophy and best-corrected visual acuity between 20/32 and 20/70. Valeda is not indicated for wet AMD or center-involving geographic atrophy. Certain light sensitivities, light-triggered neurological conditions, and medications that increase photosensitivity may also affect eligibility.
